QWAFAFEW NYC is one of a number of chapters associated with QWAFAFEW, a not-for-profit international organization of  quantitatively oriented investment professionals. 

The name QWAFAFEW (pronounced “quaff-a-few”) is an acronym derived from Quantitative Work  Alliance for Applied Finance,  Economics,  and Wisdom.
 

The New York Chapter was formed in 1996 to provide a local venue for  quantitative researchers to discuss their evolving work with peers.  Its  members span the gamut from owners and senior executives of investment  related organizations to recent entrants to the industry.  It hosts  monthly forums on a wide range of investment topics from fundamental and  quantitative strategies to technology to regulation – but maintains the  informal atmosphere and the opportunity to discuss issues and relax  over drinks with peers. The forum also serves as a conduit for  networking.
